BOBCATS ON A FOUR GAME WIN STREAK

Box Score NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – The St. Thomas University Women's Basketball Team (7-4, 4-1 TSC) defeated the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales University (3-8, 0-6 TSC) in the cat fight that was held on Saturday afternoon at the Wildcat Center.
 
Johnson and Wales were able to get out to an early lead that would only last two-minutes into the game. STU's offense would then go on to score three straight lay ups courtesy of Samara Auguste, Chakari Merritt, and Ebony Griffin to gain the lead. The Bobcats went on a nine-to-two run in a three minute span to take the lead 11-7. JWU worked their way back into the game tying it at thirteen all with 2:20 on the clock in the first quarter. St. Thomas ended the quarter with back-to-back threes from Auguste and freshmen, Madison Sjogreen, sunk one in with nine seconds left in the quarter to give the Bobcats a 19-13 lead heading into the second quarter.
 
That lead would uphold the rest of the game as the Bobcats offense continued to mount on points that would open up the margin. Two consecutive layups by Samaria August and Griffin extended the lead to ten over the Wildcats. The lead would uphold at seven heading into the half as Merritt drove it in in the final seconds to secure a three possession advantage.
 
The "Griffin Show" took off in the third quarter as the senior power forward scored 11 out of the Bobcats 23 points. During this period STU took a fifteen-point advantage over JWU that would ultimately seal the deal for the Bobcats. The offense kept a steady lead as it was never below six in the second half. St. Thomas would control most of the possessions in the fourth quarter to have complete control in the match.
 
Notables:
- Griffin records her season-high seventh double-double (25 points, 11 rebounds) and her fourth consecutive.
- Griffin is one rebound short of averaging a double-double (13.4/ppg ; 9.1 rpg)
- Bobcats are on a four-game win streak (all conference matches)
