DOMINANT OUTING FROM ORLANDO RODRIGUEZ GETS STU GAME ONE WIN OVER KEISER

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - #21 St. Thomas University (12-2, 4-0 TSC) traveled to #10 Keiser University (7-4, 2-3 TSC) and defeated the Seahawks by a score of 4-1 on Friday afternoon to open up the weekend series between the two nationally ranked Sun Conference rivals.

Orlando Rodriguez (3-0) kept rolling for the Bobcats, going eight innings while totaling 11 strikeouts, allowing only four hits and one earned run on a solo home run in the fourth inning. The fourth inning home run by Keiser was the first earned run that Rodriguez has allowed on the season and snapped an 18 inning scoreless streak. The dominant outing by Rodriguez earned the ace his third win of the season. Bobcat closer Erne Valdes pitched the ninth inning to earn his second save on the season and struck out two of the four batters he faced.

The Bobcat offense opened up the scoring in the first inning when Sergio Lopez reached first base on a throwing error that allowed Daniel Lowry to score. Nelson Mompierre (1-2, Solo HR) would extend STU's lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning as he tied the team lead for home runs with his third of the season. The solo home run would also allow Mompierre to tie the team lead in Golden Rake nominations with Jackie Urbaez at two each.
In the sixth inning the Bobcat offense would score two more runs as Chris Garabedian (1-4) would come home on a play that allowed Elih Marrero (2-4) to sacrifice himself as a base-runner. The other run came on a bases-loaded RBI single from Oscar Rodriguez (2-4, RBI) that brought in Lopez.

St. Thomas is back in action on Saturday as they travel back to West Palm Beach to play Keiser in a doubleheader to complete the weekend series.  First pitch of game one of the doubleheader is set for 11 a.m.
