Box Score BOBCATS WIN 9TH STRAIGHT
LAKE WALES, Fla. - St. Thomas (18-7, 14-1 TSC) won its ninth consecutive game with a resounding 76-50 win over host Warner (12-15, 3-12 TSC) on Thursday evening.Â
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 14-1 in The Sun Conference and remained solidly in second place in the league standings. Â STU's only loss this season through 15 conference games came to Southeastern, the number one ranked team in the nation. Â Overall, the Bobcats have won 17 of their last 19 games.
Senior Kristina Bugarski, who along with seniors Janelle Silver and
Katie Rienas will be honored Saturday on Senior Day, led all scorers with 20 points. Â The 20 points marked a career high in a Bobcat uniform for Bugarski who's previous career high of 15 points came in STU's previous meeting with Warner.
Bugarski sank four three-pointers, another career high, en route to the high scoring output.
Chakari Merritt also recorded a career high with 15 points, besting her previous high of 13 set early in the season at Montana Tech.Â
The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead on a dominant 14-0 run to start the game. Bugarski scored 10 of STU's 14 points in the early scoring avalanche on 4-of-4 shooting from the field including two three-pointers.
STU, which never trailed in the contest, maintained its 14-point lead through the end of the first period.
The Bobcats went on another explosive 8-0 run to start the second quarter to grow the lead to over 20 points. Â Merritt came up big in the second quarter, scoring eight of her 15 points in the frame.
STU took a 44-22 lead into halftime and never looked back through the second half, cruising to the 76-50 victory.
St. Thomas returns to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. vs. Webber International at the Fernandez Family Center. Â Senior Day ceremonies are scheduled prior to tip off between the Bobcats and the Warriors.
