#7 STU TAKES GAME ONE OF SERIES AGAINST (RV) FLORIDA MEMORIAL IN A RUN RULE

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The seventh ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats (32-4, 12-1 TSC) were victorious in game one of the Sun Conference Series of the week against (RV) Florida Memorial University (20-12, 11-5 TSC) by virtue of another walk-off run-rule by a score of 16-6 on Friday night.

Bobcat ace, Orlando Rodriguez (8-0) earned his eighth win of the season pitching six and a third innings, with eight strikeouts while allowing four earned runs. Florida Memorial was able to jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as a run came into score on a passed ball. Rodriguez settled into a groove as that run was the only run he allowed until the fifth inning after the Bobcats were able to claim the lead in the second inning.

St. Thomas found themselves only two outs away from finishing off the run-rule in the seventh inning, but the Lions were able to rally and add three runs to delay the inevitable with a three-run home run. Following the home run, Orlando Rodriguez was replaced by Miguel Rodriguez, who finished off the game getting the final five outs.

Nearly the entire starting lineup for the Bobcats was able to notch at least one hit on the game, with several hitters collecting multiple hits once again. Seven members of the starting nine for St. Thomas brought in runs to score as one of the nation's best offenses continued to rake at a high level.

Erick Delgado was the St. Thomas lead-off man tonight and responded with a 4-for-5 night, adding his second home run of the season as he crushed a pitch over the scoreboard. In addition to Delgado's performance, Elih Marrero would go 5-for-6 with four RBIs. Marrero was the one responsible for ending the game early as he doubled off the left field fence to plate Sergio Lopez and Daniel Lowry.

Up next for No. 7 St. Thomas is a continuation of the "Battle of the Palmetto" and Sun Conference series of the week as (RV) Florida Memorial travels down the road for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 31st starting at 12 p.m.
