BOBCATS FALL TO #2 SEED SCAD IN SEMIS

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - The third seeded St. Thomas University Women's Tennis team competed Thursday in the semifinals of The Sun Conference Championship hosted by the College of Coastal Georgia.

St. Thomas fell in the dual match by the score of 5-0 to no. 2 seed SCAD-Savannah as the Bees advanced to the conference finals with the win.

The Bobcats played the Bees tough in the doubles competition despite SCAD winning all three of the doubles matches.  The no. 2 doubles team of Victoria Slavina and Mariah Bastos dropped their match 8-5, while the no. 3 team of Cynthia Diaz and Naomi Maehama fell 8-4.  The no. 1 doubles team of Cassandra Lemieux and Andrea Gonzales lost 8-2.

SCAD then went on to clinch the semifinal with wins in number no. 1 and no. 5 singles.  Lemieux won the first set of her match in no. 2 singles but the match went unfinished.

The Bobcats head back home to South Florida with an overall record of 6-9, a no. 24 national ranking, and a semifinals appearance at The Sun Conference Championship.  Slavina was named Second-Team All-Conference, while Maehama was named Academic All-Conference.  Lemieux was The Sun Conference Champions of Character award winner.
