MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (December 6, 2019) - St. Thomas University Men's (3-2, 2-1 TSC) and Women's (5-4, 2-1 TSC) Basketball teams take on the Florida Memorial University Lions in the "Battle of Miami Gardens" on Saturday, December 7 from the Fernandez Family Center.
Last season, the Bobcats Women's Basketball split the season series, dropping the first match-up at the buzzer, 77-75 before taking the finale 75-72. St. Thomas owns the all-time series lead, 15-4 and rode a 13-game winning streak from February 2012 until January 2018.
So far in 2019, St. Thomas is currently 5-4 and tied for fourth in the Sun Conference with Florida Memorial, Saturday's match-up is crucial for the conference tournament. As a team, STU is outscoring opponents 69 - 62, through nine games while shooting 34% from beyond-the-arc.
Keiana Brooks and
Gianni Domond have led the team, scoring 120 and 101 points, respectively. Domond has recorded three "double-double" performances on the season and scored a season-high 21-points in a win against Trinity College on Wednesday evening.
Anari Dozier leads St. Thomas in three-pointers (24) and is ranked fourth in the Sun Conference in that category.
STU heads into the pivotal Sun Conference match-up following a dominant, 106 - 26 win over Trinity College. Five Bobcats recorded double-digit points (Domond,21/

Destiny Wilson,11) and St. Thomas held the Tigers scoreless over the final 15-minutes of game action, including a scoreless fourth quarter.
Isis Lane is the Lions leading scorer, as the senior is averaging 13.7 points-per-game and 9.9 rebounds-per-game. FMU is currently riding a four-game winning streak, which includes both of Florida Memorial's two Sun Conference wins.
The St. Thomas University Men's team currently sits at 1-2 in Sun Conference play, tied with the Lions and for sixth place. STU's lone Sun Conference win came in upset fashion against No. 21 Warner University on November 21. As a team, the Bobcats are shooting 47% from the field and 38% from three-point territory; while holding opponents to 42% and 25%.
STU has swept the season series in back-to-back seasons, riding a four-game winning streak, dating back to November 18, 2018.
Justin Brown has been a consistent force for STU this season, averaging 24.8-ppg, on 46/41/88%.
Florida Memorial has five players averaging over double-digits, with Mubashar Ali as their leading scorer. Ali is averaging 17.3-ppg and 12.9-rpg. The Lions are currently in the midst of a three-game losing streak, including two losses to teams that St. Thomas has previously beaten (Warner & Voorhees College).
St. Thomas University Football is hosting a "Battle of Miami Gardens" tailgate, prior to the game for prospective recruits and STU student-athletes. At halftime of each game on Saturday, St. Thomas University basketball programs are offering an iPhone giveaway to a fan that makes a half-court shot. Saturday's games will also be an ugly sweater game, Bobcat Basketball fans are encouraged to participate in the festivities.
