BOBCATS LOSE HEARTBREAKER VERSUS GYRENES


MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 14th, 2019) – St. Thomas University's Men's Basketball team (11-14, 10-7 TSC) fell in Sun Conference play against (RV) Ave Maria (19-8, 12-5 TSC) 60-55 on Thursday night from the Fernandez Family Center.

Game Notes
  • Following the under-15-minute media timeout, Saunders made his first of five three-pointers, to give STU a 9-4 lead over AMU.
  • A 15-5 run by Ave Maria, encompassing ten minutes, gave the Gyrenes a 19-14 lead over the Bobcats. The run was halted by another Saunders three-point bucket.
  • STU rallied to bring the Gyrene lead to just one as the teams went into halftime with the Bobcats trailing, 22-21.
  • St. Thomas scored 12-of-21 points from inside the paint in the first half.
  • The Bobcats ran off an 8-0 run, led by Antoine Joe and Saunders, as the duo each made a three to give STU a 29-22 lead within two minutes of the second half.
  • Saunders added two consecutive makes on three attempts to give the Bobcats their largest lead of the contest at 43-26 with twelve minutes remaining.
  • With less than five minutes remaining, the STU lead was cut to just three, 48-45, before Joe added a three-pointer of his own to bring the Bobcat lead back to six.
  • Ave reclaimed the lead with less than a minute remaining, to complete their comeback and defeat the Bobcats 60-55.

St. Thomas will conclude the regular season on Saturday afternoon, taking on #20 Southeastern University from the Fernandez Family Center. Prior to tip-off, STU will honor their three seniors: Philip Saunders, Adam McNeil and Anthony Cadogan.
