#6 BOBCATS DEFEAT #18 WARRIORS TO SPLIT SERIES

BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 2nd, 2019) – The sixth-ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats Baseball team (3-1) defeated 18th-ranked Webber International University (3-1) 7-5 on Saturday afternoon from Heart of Florida Field.

Game Notes
  • Ian Exposito got the starting nod for the Bobcats, making his season debut. Exposito struck out two Warriors in his first inning of work.
  • STU scored the first runs of the game in a two-run top of the third inning. Gus Guerra singled to right and scored on a RBI-double from Jackie Urbaez.
  • Two batters later, Chris Garabedian singled to left field and brought in Urbaez to put the Bobcats up 2-0.
  • Webber tied the game with a two-run bottom half of the third inning.
  • In the top of the fifth inning, STU broke the game open, scoring three runs to take a 5-2 lead over WIU.
  • Erick Delgado singled and stole second to move into scoring position for Sergio Lopez. Lopez laced a RBI-double to left field, plating Delgado.
  • Jack Diaz followed the Lopez double with a two-run home run to bring in Lopez and cap-off the three-run inning.
  • STU added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Urbaez tripled down the right field line to bring in Guerra, which was followed by a Delgado sacrifice fly to plate Urbaez.
  • Webber cut into the Bobcat lead with a solo home run as the Bobcats went into the final three innings with a 7-3 lead.
  • Alex Sarmiento earned his first save of the season, pitching the ninth inning and striking out one to seal the 7-5 victory.
