LAKE WALES, Fla. (March 7
th, 2019) – The tenth-ranked St. Thomas University Baseball team (17-6) split the opening two games of the Warner Invitational on Thursday afternoon, as the Bobcats defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene University (12-7) 3-2 and lost against Bellevue University (7-11) 6-0 in a doubleheader.

Game Notes
- Chris Coipel (4-1) made the start for the Bobcats, pitching all seven innings and picking up his fourth win of the season. Coipel allowed two earned runs and struck out five batters.
- The two starting pitchers matched each other pitch-for-pitch throughout the first four innings, as the score stayed 0-0.
- MVNU scored the first two runs of the game, taking a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning, on successful safety squeeze bunts.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, STU faced an uphill battle, needing to score two runs to tie the game off of the MVNU closer who already has recorded three saves.
- STU started the comeback with a walk to Thompson and a Diaz single to center.
- Gus Guerra pinch-hit and reached on an error by the pitcher on an attempted sacrifice bunt, loading the bases for Allende.
- Allende walked to bring in the first run of the game for STU, keeping the bases loaded for Urbaez.
- Urbaez doubled to left field to bring in both Joel Rivero and Guerra to complete the comeback as the Bobcats completed a last inning comeback for the second time this season, winning in walk-off fashion, 3-2.

Game Two
St. Thomas saw their seven-game winning streak end in shutout fashion against Bellevue University from Warner University. The STU defense struggled early, making four errors and allowing the Bruins to
score five runs in the first two innings. The Bobcat bats could not capitalize offensively, losing 6-0.

No. 10 St. Thomas University returns to action with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 8
th, with a 9:30 a.m. game against the University of St. Francis from Lake Wales High School. The Bobcats also take on Madonna University, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Avon Park High School.
