#10 BOBCATS WIN TSC SERIES AGAINST #25 WARRIORS

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (April 6th, 2019) – No. 10 St. Thomas University Bobcats Baseball (31-11, 13-5 TSC) split the Sun Conference doubleheader, but took a series victory over No. 25 Webber International University (27-15, 9-9 TSC), as STU won game one 5-1 and dropped the series finale 9-7 (12 innings), on Saturday from Paul Demie Mainieri Field.

Game Notes
  • Ian Exposito (7-2) continues to be a dominant presence on the mound for the tenth-ranked Bobcats, as the senior lasted 7.1 innings, striking out six and allowing one earned run to pick up his team leading seventh win of the season.
  • Exposito has now pitched at least seven innings in five appearances on the season and is 5-0 in starts where he pitches seven innings.
  • St. Thomas started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, as Jack Diaz hit his second home run of the season to give St. Thomas a 2-0 advantage.
  • STU added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning as Chris Garabedian singled to centerfield, plating Delgado and Thompson, extending the lead to 4-0.
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning, Delgado scored his second run of the game on a wild pitch giving the Bobcats a 5-0 lead.
  • Jason Graña came into pitch in the top of the eighth and recorded the final five outs of the game to record his team leading third save of the season, in a 5-1 victory.

Game Notes
  • WIU scored in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 advantage over the Bobcats.
  • The Warrior lead was short-lived, as Mondejar lined a single to left field to plate Garabedian, tying the game 1-1.
  • STU scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead.
  • St. Thomas took a 2-1 lead as Guerra brought in Lowry on a sacrifice fly, Urbaez plated Diaz on a RBI single and Lopez capped off the inning with a three-run home run (tenth of the season).
  • Webber cut the St. Thomas lead in half with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning, putting the score at 5-3.
  • WIU added a run in the top of the seventh and three in the eighth to take a 7-6 lead.
  • Urbaez tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, with a RBI single to right field to bring in Thompson.
  • WIU added two runs in the top of the 12th inning on Bobcat errors to win to salvage a victory in the Sun Conference series, winning 9-7.
