BOCA RATON, Fla. (January 31, 2020) - No. 2 St. Thomas University (STU) Bobcats baseball team (1-1) lost on Friday evening to NCAA DII opponent, Lynn University (1-0) 5-3 on the Knights opening day.

Game Notes
- The first four Bobcat hitters of the game went down in order, bringing Martinez to the plate with one out in the top of the second inning; Martinez promptly hit the first St. Thomas home run of the season, hitting a solo blast over the right-field wall.
- Coipel, the STU starting pitcher, also retired the first four hitters he faced before allowing a one-out single in the second inning.
- St. Thomas escaped the inning, preserving the 1-0 lead as Mondejar caught the runner stealing.
- The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning when LU tied the game with a two-out solo home run to left-field.
- In the top of the fifth inning, Vazquez ended a string of ten consecutive outs by the STU offense, reaching on an infield single.
- St. Thomas was able to crack the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning, Lopez doubled to left field and scored on a Thompson RBI single to right field.
- Later in the inning, Martinez added his second hit/RBI of the game, bringing in Thompson on a single up the middle.
- JJ Galvis entered the game for Coipel in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- Galvis retired his first two batters faced, before allowing a single and being relieved by Tyler Morales.
- Morales allowed back-to-back hits, including a go-ahead three-run home run before leaving the game.
- Felipe Soto finished the sixth inning as the Bobcats trailed 4-3 heading into the final three innings.
- Lopez added his second double of the game, advancing Gus Guerra to third base, and putting two Bobcats in scoring position for Thompson.
- STU could not capitalize, leaving two runners in scoring position and continuing to trail 4-3.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, two Knights reached base with two outs, as Perez Nichols entered the game for his second appearance of the season.
- LU added an insurance run, scoring on a wild pitch to take a 5-3 lead.
- Facing their final three outs, Khawly led off the ninth inning with a walk.
- As the ninth inning developed, pinch hitter, Erik Estevez walked to put the tying run on first base with two outs for the top of the line-up.
- Lopez could not record his third hit of the game, flying out to right-field, ending the game as STU took their first loss of the season.
