LAKELAND, Fla. (October 24, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) Football (1-3, 0-2 MSC) lost to Southeastern University (4-1, 2-1 MSC) 43-10 on Saturday night.
STU began the game with the first possession from the 39-yard line following a 35-yard return by
Reis Clark on the opening kickoff. The Bobcat's initial drive did not last long, as a fumble ended it on the second play from scrimmage. Southeastern started their drive on the STU 46-yard line and capitalized on the good starting field position by scoring the game's first points with a 45-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead. St. Thomas went three-and-out on their second drive, punting the ball to the Southeastern six-yard line. The Bobcat defense quickly forced SEU off the field on their second drive, forcing a three-and-out and starting their third possession inside Southeastern territory. STU couldn't move the ball past the initial line-of-scrimmage and turned the ball over on downs. SEU added a touchdown on the following drive, taking a 10-0 advantage over St. Thomas.
Southeastern added a second touchdown to complete their first drive in the second quarter, scoring from 19-yards out to take a 17-0 lead over the Bobcats. STU could not advance past mid-field before the end of the first half, trailing SEU, 17-0.
The Fire added two consecutive touchdown drives to start the second half, taking a 30-0 lead over St. Thomas. The Bobcats were finally able to get on the scoreboard late in the third quarter. as
Billy McConnell converted a 30-yard field goal. SEU immediately responded with a 77-yard touchdown run to take a 37-3 lead into the fourth quarter.
Robert Armes (17/117/TD) was able to break through the Southeastern defense in the fourth quarter, scoring from 28-yards out to get over the 100-yard plateau on the game. Southeastern ended the game with a 43-10 win over STU, as the Bobcats fell to 1-3 on the season.
STU travels to Ave Maria, Fla. to take on Ave Maria on Saturday, October 31. Kick-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
