BOBCATS LOOK AHEAD TO PLAYOFFS WITH FOUR-SET WIN OVER FIRE

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 10, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) (9-6,7-6 TSC) finished the regular season with a four-set (26-24, 25-22, 19-25, 25-17) victory over Southeastern University (4-10, 1-9 TSC) on Tuesday evening from the Fernandez Family Center.

  • SEU opened the game with a 7-3 lead, recording five consecutive points.
  • St. Thomas responded with six-of-seven points and took a 9-8 lead following a Fernandez service ace.
  • Back-to-back kills from Chenault and Allende extended the STU advantage to 16-13.
  • The Fire tied the first set with three straight kills, putting the score at 17-17.
  • Bolinger recorded three consecutive kills for St. Thomas and gave STU a 22-21 lead late in the first set. 
  • Southeastern tied the score once again, forcing the first set into extra points.
  • Stephanie Gomez sealed the first set victory with a service ace, as STU won 26-24.
  •  The Fire jumped to a lead in the second set, with an 8-7 advantage.
  • Three straight kills from Bollinger, Allende, and Chenault put the Bobcats ahead 17-14.
  • STU clinched the second set, as Allende closed with the final two points, extending St. Thomas' set lead 2-0.
  • SEU recorded five three consecutive errors, allowing STU to take a 10-6 lead.
  • Southeastern rallied for six straight points, taking a 12-10 advantage over the Bobcats.
  • SEU was able to steal the third set from the Bobcats, sending the game into the fourth set with a 25-19 victory.
  • STU rolled out to an early 5-2 lead in the fourth set, capped off by a Symonds kill.
  • St. Thomas rallied for 7-of-8 points, extending the Bobcat lead to 14-6.
  • Following a four-point SEU run, STU recorded 9-of-10 points, courtesy of five Fire errors as St. Thomas took a 23-11 advantage.
  • Southeastern made a late run, cutting the deficit to 24-17 before a Chenault kill ended the match.
