STU OPENS TSC PLAY WITH WIN OVER KEISER

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 12, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball (1-1, 1-0 TSC) defeated Keiser (0-1, 0-1 TSC) 74-59 on Thursday evening in the Sun Conference opener from the Fernandez Family Center.

  • Jones began the Sun Conference opener with the hot-hand for St. Thomas, converting three consecutive shots to put STU up 8-3 in the first three minutes of the game. 
  • KU cut into the Bobcat advantage with a three-pointer before tying the game, 8-8, with a lay-up. 
  • Richmond hit his first three-pointer of the game, extending the STU lead to 12-8.
  • Midway through the first half, Joe recorded his first points of the game to put the Bobcats up 20-11.
  • Keiser scored eight unanswered points, cutting the Bobcat lead to 20-19 with seven minutes remaining in the first half.
  • Pace netted his first basket of the game, putting the Bobcats back in front, 23-19. 
  • Keiser took their first lead of the game with five minutes remaining in the opening half, putting the score at 24-23.
  •  Russell led an 8-0 run over the final three minutes of the first half, scoring 6-of-8 to send the Bobcats into the break with a 33-28 lead. 
  • Pace recorded five consecutive points for St. Thomas, extending the Bobcat advantage to 42-37 early in the second half.
  • Keiser tied the game a few moments later at 42-42, but Kheron Millwood broke the tie with a lay-up with 12:47 left in the game. 
  • The Seahawks immediately responded with a lay-up of their own, tying the game once again.
  • Richmond put the Bobcats back in front with a three-pointer, 47-44, adding to his total.
  • Joe and Pace combined to hit three consecutive three-pointers, as St. Thomas distanced themselves from Keiser, leading 56-49, midway through the second half.
  • A Floyd block on the defensive end set-up a Bobcat possession, following a missed three-attempt from Richmond; Russell corralled the offensive rebound and dished to Joe in the corner. Joe converted a rare, four-point play, putting STU ahead 62-51. 
  • Ahman Ellington scored five straight points for St. Thomas and put the Bobcats ahead 67-52 with a corner-three. 
  • Richmond's third three-pointer of the game sealed the first STU win of the season, 74-59 over Keiser.
