KANSAS CITY, Mo. (November 16, 2020) - Sidney Porter, a defensive back for the St. Thomas University (STU) Football team, was named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Defensive Player of the Week.

Players of the week are evaluated on their performance during the week prior to the announcement. Each player is selected out of a pool of conference and Association of Independent Institution's award winners.

Porter becomes the first St. Thomas University Football player to earn National Player of the Week honors in the program's history. Porter forced three turnovers in the Bobcats overtime win over Warner University on Saturday, November 14. In the first quarter, Porter ended back-to-back Royals' drives by forcing fumbles in the red-zone and sealed the second overtime win in program history with an interception in the end-zone. Porter also added a career-high 13-tackles.

Porter has been named the Mid-South Defensive Player of the Week twice in the 2020 season.

Porter and the Bobcats finish the 2020 regular-season on Saturday, November 21, against Webber International. Kick-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
