BOBCATS FALL IN TSC SEMI-FINALS

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (November 16, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) Volleyball (10-7) saw its 2020 season end in the Sun Conference semi-finals with a three-set defeat (19-25, 14-25, 11-25) against Keiser University (18-0) on Monday evening from the Keiser Student Life Center.

Game Notes

  • Back-to-back kills from Chenault and Nunez-Casal tied the first set in the early going, 4-4. 
  • KU rallied for three consecutive points before a Nunez-Casal kill and Seahawks error cut the STU deficit to 8-7.
  • Keiser rallied for 5-of-7 points midway through the opening set, taking a 17-11 lead.
  • Chenault and Allende teamed to cut the KU advantage to 18-14 as STU attempted to get back into the set.
  • St. Thomas made an effort to come back in the first set, getting within five points, but ended up losing the game point and fell, 25-19.
  • The Bobcats fell behind 6-2 in the beginning of the second set, but All-Conference First-Team members Chenault and Bolinger brought STU closer, trailing 6-4. 
  • St. Thomas fell behind 11-5, as the Bobcats were forced to use a timeout. 
  • STU could not shrink the deficit to less than six points for the remainder of the second set, losing the game, 25-14.
  • Schlegel-Ridgway was able to get St. Thomas the opening point of the third set with a kill.
  • KU made three consecutive errors to tie the third set at 4-4. 
  • St. Thomas trailed 10-6, as Schlegel-Ridgway added another kill to try and lead a Bobcat comeback. 
  • Keiser closed the match by taking 7-of-8 points as the Seahawks advanced to the Sun Conference Finals.

The loss in the semi-finals marks the end of the 2020 season for St. Thomas. In the program's first season under Head Coach Whitney Battoe, the Bobcats earned their first winning season since 2017 and finished the regular season with a 9-6 record. STU had four players named to the First-Team All-Sun Conference and four players named to the All-Academic team in 2020.
