LAKELAND, Fla. (December 9, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball (3-4, 2-3 TSC) was defeated 88-73 in the Sun Conference Game of the Week by Southeastern University (6-1, 4-1 TSC) on Wednesday evening.

Game Notes

  • Jones got the Bobcats on the board first in the Sun Conference Game of the Week, finishing a lay-up at the rim.
  • Southeastern quickly took a 5-2 lead over STU, following a three-pointer in the beginning moments of the game.
  • Midway through the first half, the Bobcats trailed 22-9, and took a timeout following a dunk from the Fire.
  • Following the timeout, STU missed its first three shot attempts, as Southeastern capitalized and extended their lead to 27-8.
  • Richmond recorded a three-pointer which SEU responded with one of their own, as the Bobcats continued to trail, 32-13.
  • Dwayne Russell ended the first half by making a lay-up, sending STU into the halftime break down 38-22.
  • The Bobcats were unable to shrink the Fire lead to much in the second half, trailing 56-33 with 12-minutes remaining in the Sun Conference Game of the Week.
  • Tyrik Waite scored five consecutive points for St. Thomas, putting the score at 69-43 in favor of Southeastern.
  • After trailing by as much as 34-points, STU rallied in the final minutes of the second half, but it was too little, too late, as the Bobcats dropped the Sun Conference Game of the Week, 88-73.

Upcoming

The defeat against Southeastern University sends the Bobcats into the Winter Break. STU Men's Basketball makes its return in January 2021, resuming the season with a Sun Conference match-up against Ave Maria University from the Fernandez Family Center on Saturday, January 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
