MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (September 23, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) Volleyball (3-3, 2-3 TSC) completed a three-set sweep (25-19, 25-16, 25-12) over Ave Maria University (3-2, 3-2 TSC) on Wednesday evening from the Fernandez Family Center.

Ave Maria opened the match with a 4-1 rally, taking advantage of three Bobcat errors.
Three consecutive kills from Allende, Bolinger, and Chenault resulted in an 8-6 lead in favor of STU.
The Gyrenes responded with a brief, three-point rally of their own, reclaiming the lead at 9-8.
Bolinger and Symonds book-ended a 3-0 spurt by the Bobcats, putting St. Thomas ahead, 12-10.
Chenault stopped a Gyrene attempt at the net, which gave STU the lead for good at 15-14.
The Bobcats closed out the first set victory with an AMU service error, winning 25-19.
In the second set, Ave Maria once again jumped to an early 4-2 lead. However, the advantage was short-lived, as STU tied the set at 4-4 after an error.
Bolinger led a 5-2 run for the Bobcats, recording three kills and extending the St. Thomas lead to 12-8.
AMU rallied to put the score at 14-11 in favor of the Bobcats, but a Chenault-led 5-0 run by STU made the deficit insurmountable for the Gyrenes.
Symonds sealed the second set victory with a kill, as the Bobcats took a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 win.
St. Thomas began the third set with an 8-1 run, which featured two Stephanie Gomez service aces and two kills from Symonds.
The Bobcats took advantage of four consecutive Gyrene errors, putting the score at 15-5, as AMU used a timeout.
STU maintained momentum and extended the lead to 20-9, again forcing Ave Maria to use a timeout as the Bobcats sought to complete their first sweep of the 2020 season.
Chenault tallied two of her nine kills in the match's final five points, clinching a sweep and the second consecutive St. Thomas victory, 25-12.
