BOBCATS OPEN 2020 CAMPAIGN WITH FOUR-SET DEFEAT

Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (September 5, 2020) - St. Thomas University (STU) Volleyball (0-1, 0-1 TSC) began the Head Coach Whitney Battoe-era and the 2020 Season with a four-set loss (25-19, 19-25, 21-25, 18-25) against the College of Coastal Georgia (1-0, 1-0 TSC) on Saturday afternoon from the Fernandez Family Center.

  • STU began the Battoe-era with four consecutive points, opening the game with a 4-0 lead before Coastal Georgia called a timeout.
  • Following the Mariners timeout, CCGA scored three-of-four points before Allende reclaimed momentum for the Bobcats.
  • Consecutive kills from Bolinger extended the St. Thomas advantage to 9-6 over Coastal Georgia.
  • CCGA committed an error, following a Bolinger kill, which gave the Bobcats their largest lead of the game at 20-15.
  • The Bobcats closed the opening set with the final three points, including back-to-back kills from Bolinger, winning 25-19.
  • Nunez - Casal started the second set with a kill; however, Coastal Georgia recorded four consecutive points to take a 4-1 lead.
  • The Mariners made three errors in four plays, allowing the Bobcats to cut the deficit to 13-11.
  • CCGA benefitted off of two STU errors and extended their lead to 20-13 in the second set. 
  • After the Bobcats called a timeout, Bolinger scored consecutive points to cut the deficit to 20-16.
  • CCGA closed the set after a Bobcat error, winning 25-19 and tying the match at 1-1.
  • Six points into the third set, the score was tied 3-3, following a Mariner service error.
  • Bolinger continued to carry the Bobcat offense, scoring two points and leading STU to an 8-5 advantage.
  • Coastal Georgia recorded seven-of-eight points, reclaiming a lead at 15-12 and forcing the Bobcats to use a timeout.
  • Following the timeout, St. Thomas crawled back into the game, tying the third set 17-17.
  • The Mariners closed the set with three of the final four points, taking a 2-1 set advantage, with a 25-21 victory.
  • In the fourth set, St. Thomas took a 5-4 advantage after a Beecham service ace. 
  • CCGA scored five consecutive points, three from Caroline Risehoover, and took a 16-11 lead.
  • The Mariners closed the set with a 25-21 win and closed the match out in four games, handing the Bobcats a season-opening loss.
