BOBCATS FALL AGAINST GYRENES

AVE MARIA, Fla. (January 26, 2021)- St. Thomas University Men's Basketball (6-8, 5-7 TSC) fell to Ave Maria University (14-7, 8-5 TSC) late Tuesday evening.

Game Starters:

Game Notes:

  • Millwood put the Bobcats on the board 2-0 quickly in the first half with a bucket.
  • Ave Maria was fast to take a 16-5 lead over the Bobcats, that run only being stopped by a layup from Waite.
  • Whitaker drained a 3-pointer to add to the Bobcat score, 11-16.
  • Ave Maria went on a 7-0 run, brought to a halt by Jacob Ray and his first points of the game, making the score 15-25.
  • Millwood drained his second bucket of the game, trying to close the gap on Ave Maria 18-26.
  • Millwood's bucket starts a 7-0 Bobcat run, capped off by a Justyn Rogers free-throw.
  • Bobcats would start a back-and-forth trying to gain the lead going into halftime.
  • Whitaker put the Bobcats on top twice but was quickly followed by Ave to tie 29-29.
  • Antoine Joe hit his first 3-pointer of the game, putting the Bobcats in the lead 34-31 with less than two minutes to go in the first half.
  • Ray's layup ended the half in the Bobcats' favor 38-34.
  • Bobcats and Gyrenes start the second half going back-and-forth for the lead, including baskets from Millwood, Rogers, and Ray.
  • Ave went on to take a 9 point lead over the Bobcats halfway into the second half. 
  • Gyrenes extended their lead 66-53 with seven minutes remaining in the game.
  • Rogers started to close the Gyrenes' lead 64-72 with a layup followed by a free throw.
  • Whitaker drained a 3-pointer to bring the Bobcats within five points of the Gyrenes with two minutes till the end of the game, 67-72.
  • Bobcats could not hold on as they fell 67-79 as the final score.

St. Thomas University Men's Basketball is back at the Fernandez Family Center on Saturday, January 30, to take on Webber International. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
