BOBCATS POSTSEASON RUN ENDS IN NAIA OPENING ROUND

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (November 18, 2021) - The receiving votes St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team (12-5-2, 5-3-1 SUN) fell to the second seeded Phoenix of Cumberland University (14-4-1, 8-2-1 MSC) Thursday afternoon on the road in the Opening Round of the NAIA National Championship.

Match Notes
  • Lefebvre earned her 16th start of the season in goal.
  • The Phoenix scored early in the eighth minute, giving them a 1-0 lead over the Bobcats.
  • In the 35th minute Jocelyn Mendez had a solid opportunity off a cross, the keeper's save led to a corner where she immediately had another opportunity, however she was unable to find the back of the net.
  • Despite St. Thomas out shooting Cumberland 5-3 in the first half, the score still remained 1-0 going into halftime.
  • In the 74th minute CU scored their second goal of the match to now take a 2-0 lead.
  • Andrea Manzur did not allow for the Phoenix to earn a shutout, her goal in the final seconds of the game put the Bobcats on the board.
  • This was Manzur's eighth goal of the season.

  • The Bobcats advanced to the NAIA Opening Round for the first time since 2013.
  • STU upset #2 and defending national champions, Keiser University in the Sun Conference Semifinals to clinch a spot in the championship game.
