BOBCATS HOLD OFF MARINERS IN TSC PLAY

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 1, 2021) - St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball (8-8, 7-7 TSC) earned a hard-fought Sun Conference win against the College of Coastal Georgia (8-9, 6-8 TSC) 93-90 on Monday evening from the Fernandez Family Center.

  • Floyd started a quick, 6-0 run for STU, which was capped by back-to-back buckets from Russell to give the Bobcats a 10-3 lead.
  • A three-point make from Seven Ferguson extended the St. Thomas advantage to 17-8 with 13-minutes remaining in the first half.
  • Six consecutive points from Quinterious Jones gave STU a 23-10 advantage over the Mariners.
  • Waite finished an and-one to give the Bobcats a 26-11 lead midway through the first half.
  • Antoine Joe sank a three-pointer, which gave St. Thomas a 31-11 advantage at the nine-minute mark of the first half.
  • Ferguson recorded his second three-pointer of the first half, putting the score at 38-22 with less than six-minutes remaining.
  • Russell closed the first half with a fastbreak dunk, sending the teams into the break with St. Thomas leading 48-34.
  • Russell and Jones each recorded 12-points in the first half for STU.
  • The Bobcats shot 54.1% from the field in the opening 20-minutes.
  • Rogers and Floyd started the second half with back-to-back baskets for the Bobcats, putting the score at 52-37.
  • Jacob Ray finished a lay-up, drawing a foul, but could not convert the free throw as STU extended the lead to 62-44.

  • CCGA brought the score within five, 85-80 when Joe extended the lead with a three-pointer with one-minute remaining.
  • Rogers closed the game from the free-throw line, putting STU ahead 93-87.
  • A last-second shot from the Mariners put the score at 93-90 to close the game, as the Bobcats earned their eighth win of the season.
