FOSTER EARNS PROGRAM'S FIRST MSC CHAMPIONSHIP, STU COMPETES AT MSC TOURNEY

LAKELAND, Fla. (February 20, 2021) - St. Thomas University (STU) Wrestling competed in the program's first-ever Mid-South Conference Tournament, placing fourth overall in a five-team bracket. 

Nicholas Foster pre-seeded as the No. 1 seed in the 133-bracket and advanced to the finals with three byes. Foster faced off against Brewton-Parker's Santiago and clinched the first Mid-South Conference Championship for St. Thomas, earning a 21-5 technical fall victory. The bracket title placed Foster on the All-Mid-South Conference First-Team.

Malik Cook-Bey was defeated in both matches in the 141-bracket, falling against Ayala in 21-seconds by a pin. Cook-Bey also lost 8-4 in a decision to BPC. 

In the 149-bracket, Kade Clute was pinned in 1:21 against Ratbek Erkinbekov from Keiser. Clute was also pinned against Jaquan English in 1:14 in the consolation bracket semi-finals.

Kevin Augustin fell in a technical decision, 18-2, by Jack Bass in the 157-bracket. Julian Hernandez pinned Daniel Garlin in the final 30-seconds in the third round. Garlin faced off against Augustin in the fifth-place match, pinning Augustin in 1:24 in the first round. 

Edens Valmy and Brent Becerra represented St. Thomas in the 165-bracket, with the duo losing both of their matches. 

In the 174-bracket, Rivaldo Valmy earned third-place by defeating Kalean Jones from Keiser in the third-place match, 5-2. Valmy was named to the Third-Team All-Mid-South Conference.

Jaxxson Padron, pre-seeded as the fourth 285, was pinned in 1:31 by Joel Faglier and 53-seconds by Earnest Johnson from Keiser in the 285-bracket third-place match.

Results 

Nick Foster was named to the Champions of Character team and representative fot St. Thomas.

St. Thomas University also placed six members on the Mid-South Conference All-Academic team for the 2020-21 season
