BOBCATS ADVANCE TO SEMIFINALS

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 23, 2021)- The number two seed St. Thomas University (18-4, 15-4 TSC) defeated the number seven seed Ave Maria University (8-19, 5-16 TSC) 65-69 early Tuesday evening in The Sun Conference Quarterfinals from the Fernandez Family Center.

Game Notes:

  • Martinez-Sanz recorded the first points of the game. Following a foul on her shot, she added another point to the Bobcat total with a 3-0 lead.
  • Gyrenes went on an 8-0 run, only coming to a close from Anari Dozier. 5-8 with two minutes left in the first quarter.
  • The first quarter concluded in favor of the Gyrenes, 13-7.
  • A second chance bucket from Edwards gave the Bobcats their first points of the quarter, beginning to close the gap on the Gyrenes 9-13.
  • A three-pointer from Dozier brought the Bobcats within one, 12-13 with 8:14 left in half. 
  • Bobcats went on a 9-2 run to give them a one-point advantage over the Gyrenes, 16-15.
  •  A foul on Pressley's shot brought her to the line, sinking one to keep the Gyrenes close, 17-18.
  • A steal and a fast break from Pressley put the Bobcats up by one, 23-22, with a minute left to play in the second quarter.
  • August heads to the line with 1.6 seconds, banking one, to close out the half 24-22 in favor of the Bobcats.
  • A quick layup from Domond put the Bobcats up by four to start the third quarter 26-22.
  • A second chance bucket from Domond extended the Bobcat lead 28-22.
  • A steal from Martinez-Sanz with a layup from Rodriguez put the Bobcats on a 6-0 run, starting the third quarter strong.
  • A steal and fast-break from August gave the Bobcats a nine-point advantage with 7:37 left in the third.
  • Rodriguez sank her first three of the game, extending the Bobcat lead 38-24.
  • Bobcats went on a 17-4 run for the first six minutes of the third quarter.
  • Two recorded free throws for Domond put the Bobcats on top 47-26 with three minutes remaining.
  • The third quarter concluded with a quick up from Bogatz for two, 51-33.
  • Martinez-Sanz started off the fourth quarter for the Bobcats with a shot, 53-36.
  • Dozier kept the Bobcat lead at 15 with a three.
  • Domond went to the line, recorded both, giving the Bobcats a 58-43 advantage with 6:34 left to play.
  • Gyrenes go on a 6-0 run to bring the Bobcat lead down to 10, 61-51 with 3:36 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Gyrenes would continue their run to come within four of the Bobcats, 63-59 with 35.1 seconds left.
  • With 23.6 remaining, Martinez-Sanz recorded two free throws for the Bobcats, giving them a 65-59 advantage to close the game.
