BOBCATS FALL SHORT OF TSC CROWN, LOSE TO #10 FIRE

LAKELAND, Fla. (February 27, 2021) - St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball (19-5) was defeated in the Sun Conference Tournament Championship game to No. 10 Southeastern University (25-2) 93-54 from "the Furnace" on campus at Southeastern University.

  • The Fire scored the first six points of the Sun Conference Championship, before Domond cut the deficit in half with a three-pointer.
  • SEU recorded a 10-0 run, when Martinez - Sanz, Edwards, and Domond all recorded points to end the quarter with the score at 20-12.
  • Brooke Bogatz responded to a SEU three-pointer with one of her own to keep the Bobcats within seven, 23-16.
  • Pressley finished a lay-up, courtesy of a Martinez - Sanz assist, to bring STU within striking distance, 23-19.
  • Consecutive three-point makes from Southeastern forced STU to call a timeout trailing 31-19.
  • Samaria August hit a three-pointer to put the score at 37-22.
  • Rodriguez hit two free throws in the closing seconds of the first half to send the Sun Conference tournament title to the halftime break with STU down 46-31.
  • Each team scored five straight points in the first 1:30 in the second half, with Martinez-Sanz making a lay-up and August nailing a three-pointer.
  • Midway through the third quarter, STU trailed 58-40.
  • Heading to the fourth quarter, St. Thomas was down 65-44.
  • Bogatz scored the first five points of the fourth quarter for St. Thomas.
  • The Fire extended their lead to 79-51, midway through the fourth quarter.
  • August scored the final points of the Sun Conference title game, as STU fell in the championship, 93-54.

St. Thomas University, the Sun Conference Regular Season and Tournament Runner-up await the NAIA Selection show to determine if they are advancing to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round.
