STU FALLS AGAINST WIU

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (February 27, 2021) - St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Flag Football (2-2 TSC) fell against Webber International University (4-1, 3-0 TSC) 18-6 on Saturday in a neutral-site game at Keiser University. The Bobcats also lost in overtime 20-19 in a continuation from the Saturday, February 6, game against WIU.

In the continuation game against the Warriors, WIU broke the tie with a 14-yard touchdown run from RayGene Garner. The Bobcats responded as Jada Graham scored on a five-yard scamper into the endzone for the touchdown and also scored on the conversion attempt. Graham followed with another five-yard touchdown run, bringing the score to 19-14, after failing to convert the point-after-attempt. Webber International earned the overtime victory with a four-yard touchdown pass from Sierra Harris to Susann Kaufmann. The Warriors converted the point-after-attempt and took a 20-19 win over St. Thomas.

 STU began game two of the afternoon with the ball. Graham completed her first two passes, finding Erianece Wilson for a five-yard gain and Dejonice Parris for a 17-yard completion for the first down. Graham connected again with Parris for another 17-yards, bringing the ball into the Warrior's red zone. Graham combined for 30-rushing yards on four carries but could not find the endzone and kept the score at 0-0. 

WIU drove the length of the field, scoring the first touchdown of the game on a nine-yard rush from Sierra Harris to take a 6-0 lead. STU converted a first down before the end of the quarter and began the second quarter on the St. Thomas 22-yard line. The Bobcats punted later in the drive, flipping field position as Webber took over on their 35-yard line. WIU followed with a punt, and STU took the game into the first half, trailing 6-0. 

Kayla Alvarez intercepted Sierra Harris on the third Warriors play of the second half, getting STU the ball on the Warrior's 18-yard line. The Bobcats were unable to move the ball, turning it over on downs and remaining scoreless. Destynne Francois got the Bobcats the ball back almost immediately, picking off Harris on the STU 26-yard line. 

Graham was intercepted on the STU 32-yard line as the game flipped into the fourth quarter. On the second play of the fourth quarter, WIU scored on a 19-yard touchdown, extending its lead to 12-0 over STU. Graham led the Bobcats down the field, scoring on a two-yard rush to make the score 12-6. 

Webber sealed the win with a 23-yard touchdown pass from Harris to Garner, extending the lead to 18-6 with less than four minutes remaining. Graham rushed for 27-yards on the final STU possession before taking a sack to turn the ball over with 1:15 left in the game.

St. Thomas takes on Warner University and Keiser University in Sun Conference action on Saturday, March 6 at 12 p.m. from Bobcats Field.
