MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 1, 2021) - St. Thomas University (STU) Softball (3-3) dropped both games of a doubleheader against No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan University (4-0) on Monday evening. Indiana Wesleyan took game one 2-1 and finished the sweep with a 9-7 win in extra innings.

• Bautista led off the second inning with a single and reached third on a passed ball with one out.
• STU was unable to score the first run of the game in the second inning.
• Winter totaled two strikeouts in the top of the third inning.
• Bautista walked with the bases loaded, bringing in Pacetti, as the Bobcats took a 1-0 lead.
• Winter added two more strikeouts to her ledger in the top of the fourth inning.
• No. 15 IWU scored two in the top of the fifth inning, taking a 2-1 lead over the Bobcats.
• St. Thomas was unable to score a run for the remainder of the game, dropping game one of the doubleheader, 2-1.

Games Notes

• The Bobcats got off to a quick start, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning, as Luna and Uribe recorded RBI singles.
• Uribe added another RBI to her ledger with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the third inning, bringing in Spalding.
• Artiles extended the Bobcat advantage with a sacrifice bunt, which brought in Samaniego in the bottom of the fourth inning.
• IWU capitalized on an error with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning, cutting the deficit in half and putting the score at 4-2.
• Samaniego scored Uribe in the bottom of the fifth inning, padding the STU advantage to 5-2.
• Two IWU homers in the sixth and seventh innings tied the game, 5-5, and sent game two into extra innings.
• Indiana Wesleyan added three runs in the extra inning, taking a 9-5 lead.
• Bautista and Spalding were both hit by pitches and brought in runs, putting the score at 9-7.
• STU was unable to capitalize further and was swept in the doubleheader, falling in extra innings, 9-7.
