MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 17, 2021) - St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Flag Football (2-4) was defeated on Wednesday afternoon by Ottawa University (3-2) 19-12 on Wednesday afternoon from Bobcat Field.
St. Thomas opened the game with possession in the second half of a doubleheader for Ottawa University.
Jada Graham completed each of her first three passes on the drive for STU, but the Bobcats were unable to advance the ball past mid-field. The St. Thomas defense held the Ottawa offense to seven-yards on the Braves' first possession. Two plays later, STU gave the ball back to OU on an interception. Â The Braves drove down the field and scored the game's opening points on a one-yard touchdown run.Â
St. Thomas maintained possession into the second quarter. Facing a third-and-17, Holly Nehar connected with
Kayla Alvarez on a 36-yard pass to set the Bobcats up inside the Braves 25 yard-line. The Bobcats were unable to capitalize on the field position, and OU took over after a failed fourth-down attempt by STU.
Tiffany Walker intercepted a pass from the Braves' quarterback, setting the Bobcats up near mid-field. STU drove down the field and missed on a touchdown as Graham rushed to the four-yard line on a fourth down play.Â
The Bobcats went into the half trailing 7-0.
OU opened with possession and scored on a 59-yard touchdown pass in the second half, extending their lead to 14-0 over STU. The Braves scored another touchdown late in the third quarter, taking a 20-0 lead after failing to convert the point-after-attempt. Ottawa added a fourth touchdown, putting the score at 26-0 early in the fourth quarter.
