3/17/2021 6:51:00 PM

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 17, 2021) - St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Flag Football (2-4) was defeated on Wednesday afternoon by Ottawa University (3-2) 19-12 on Wednesday afternoon from Bobcat Field.

St. Thomas opened the game with possession in the second half of a doubleheader for Ottawa University. Jada Graham completed each of her first three passes on the drive for STU, but the Bobcats were unable to advance the ball past mid-field. The St. Thomas defense held the Ottawa offense to seven-yards on the Braves' first possession. Two plays later, STU gave the ball back to OU on an interception.  The Braves drove down the field and scored the game's opening points on a one-yard touchdown run.

St. Thomas maintained possession into the second quarter. Facing a third-and-17, Holly Nehar connected with Kayla Alvarez on a 36-yard pass to set the Bobcats up inside the Braves 25 yard-line. The Bobcats were unable to capitalize on the field position, and OU took over after a failed fourth-down attempt by STU. Tiffany Walker intercepted a pass from the Braves' quarterback, setting the Bobcats up near mid-field. STU drove down the field and missed on a touchdown as Graham rushed to the four-yard line on a fourth down play.

The Bobcats went into the half trailing 7-0.

OU opened with possession and scored on a 59-yard touchdown pass in the second half, extending their lead to 14-0 over STU. The Braves scored another touchdown late in the third quarter, taking a 20-0 lead after failing to convert the point-after-attempt. Ottawa added a fourth touchdown, putting the score at 26-0 early in the fourth quarter.
