MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (April 17, 2021) - St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Flag Football hosted the inaugural Flag Football Sun Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon from Monsignor Pace High School. The Bobcats advanced to the Sun Conference Championship with a thrilling 19-13 victory over Webber International University in the Semi-Final and followed with a 33-0 defeat in the Championship Game to Keiser University.

In the Sun Conference semifinal against Webber, St. Thomas began the game with possession. Holly Nehar completed her first four pass attempts and brought the Bobcats past mid-field with a completion to Miranda Ferradaz. The Bobcat offense stalled as Webber took over at its 15-yard line. Sun Conference Co-Player of The Year, Sierra Harris, led the Warriors down the field and to the opening points of the Sun Conference semifinal, taking a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Nehar and the Bobcats drove down the field to open the second quarter, with Nehar connecting with Destynne Francois for a 33-yard game, which put the ball on the WIU two yard-line. STU's Sun Conference Co-Player of the Year, Jada Graham, scampered into the end-zone, tying the game 6-6. Webber International took a 13-6 with a passing touchdown midway through the second quarter. Following a STU punt, Ferradaz intercepted the WIU quarterback and gave St. Thomas University possession inside the red zone. Nehar was intercepted, and the Sun Conference semi-final went into the halftime break with St. Thomas trailing 13-6.

The Bobcats took over possession, with 7:12 remaining in the third quarter from its 10-yard line. Nehar connected with Graham for a 20-yard gain, bringing the Bobcats to mid-field.  Graham capped off the drive with a two-yard completion to Dejonice Parris, putting the score at 13-12 in favor of the Warriors before the end of the third quarter. St. Thomas took the lead over WIU with a 20-yard touchdown to Kayla Alvarez, giving  STU a 19-13 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Webber began its final opportunity of the game from their 12-yard line, and quickly advanced past mid-field with two plays over 20-yards. Facing a goalline stand to determine the winner of the first Sun Conference Flag Football Championship Semi-final game, All-Conference defender, Kayla Alvarez, broke up two consecutive passes, as STU earned a 19-13 victory.

In the Sun Conference Championship game, the Bobcats struggled to keep up with the undefeated Keiser Seahawks and lost 33-0 in the championship.
