#20 STU SEASON ENDS AT NAIA NATIONALS

MOBILE, Ala. (May 18, 2021) - No. 20 St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Tennis (11-5) ended its campaign with a 4-0 loss against No. 13 the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) on Tuesday afternoon from the Mobile Tennis Center in the 69th annual Men's Tennis NAIA National Championship.

St. Thomas made the NAIA National Tournament in the first year under Head Coach Matt Roche after a decade-long drought. 

Singles

  • Mattis Le Montagner clinched the first singles' point of the match for the Patriots as he defeated Thomas Andrews (1-6, 2-6).
  • Robin Calais also fell in two sets, losing (4-6, 2-6) to Martin Muller.
  • Cumberlands clinched the first-round victory over STU with a (4-6, 4-6) win by Eric Banoub over Juan Patino Pabon.

Doubles

  • The duo of Lucas Ribas and Sebastian Bunster lost (1-6) to Martin Barbier and Banoub.
  • Cumberlands sealed the doubles' win with a (3-6) victory by Luis Montull and Le Montagner over Calais and Pabon.

STU ends its 2021 season with more victories than in each of the previous three combined. Congratulations to Head Coach Matt Roche and the Bobcat Men's Tennis team on a successful campaign.
