HISTORIC PERFORMANCE FOR STU FOOTBALL TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (September 18, 2021) – St. Thomas University's (STU) Football team (4-0, 1-0 MSC) defeated the visiting St. Andrews University Knights (0-3) 62-20 on Saturday afternoon from next door neighbor, Monsignor Edward Pace High School. The offense exploded for the most points in program history while off to the best start in program history.
 
Game Notes
 
First Quarter
  • Special teams got the scoring going within their first opportunity as C'Quan Jnopierre returned the Knights punt from the home-12-yard line for 88-yards and scored the first of nine touchdowns in the game.
  • Alejandro Prado came in to square away the extra point attempt.
  • St. Andrews then capitalized on a St. Thomas mistake on the punt that had them regain possession and led to a touchdown drive, tying the game up at seven all.
  • On the second drive for St. Thomas, it did not look like the offense was settled in, but it quickly turned around on a 39-yard reception to Eric Demps from Tyler Thomas to spark some momentum on a second-and-20.
  • After a defensive pass interference, the Bobcats were reset on first-and-goal where Samir English-Brown rushed for the two-yard touchdown to regain the lead, 14-7.
  • That was English-Brown's first collegiate touchdown.
 
Second Quarter
  • St. Andrews scored on their opening drive to tie the game up at 14. St. Thomas then bounced back and scored 34 unanswered points.
  • A terrific drive by Thomas who went 4-5 for 42 yards while rushing for four-yards that led to a three-yard rushing touchdown for English-Brown, his second of the game.
  • Prado's extra point attempt was blocked making the score 20-14 in favor of St. Thomas.
  • The Bobcats defense quickly forced a three and out for the Knights, getting their offense quickly back on the field.
  • Tyler Thomas only needed one play to find Joshua Beneby and guide him to a 92-yard touchdown. Alejandro Prado was able to find the uprights and extend the lead to 27-14.
  • As the Knight offense finally start to settle in the St. Thomas defense forced a fumble and recovered killing the drive momentum and putting Thomas and the team back on the field.
  • St. Thomas gained possession on their home-35. Another one play drive was all the offense needed to find the endzone.
  • Reigning Mid-South Conference Sun Division Offensive Player of the Week, Rontavious Farmer, found an opening down the middle of the field and rushed for the 65-yard touchdown.
  • STU now led 34-14.
  • St. Andrews punter fumbled the snap and was greeted by four rushing Bobcats to give STU the ball on the home-41.
  • This time the Bobcats needed two plays in order to make the reservation for six.
  • Tyler Thomas found Khalitri Zow in wide open space and connected to him for the 41-yard touchdown reception.
  • St. Thomas' defense once again forced a three and out for the Knights.
  • Thomas was feeling it in the second quarter finding Jnopierre open for another one play drive that led to a Bobcat touchdown.
  • Jnopierre made the 48-yard reception to blow this game up and make it 48-14 to head into halftime.
 
Third Quarter
  • St. Thomas received the kickoff coming back from the half.
  • The Bobcats ran the two-minute drill scoring on seven-plays for 90-yards in two and half minutes.
  • Rontavious Farmer found the endzone this time on a five-yard rush.
  • Braden Dick had his first punt of the day for 59-yards.
  • Brayan Vergara made a statement of his own on defense forcing a fumble one play after the punt return.
  • Both teams traded fumbles in back-to-back drives.
  • St. Thomas put the final touch on the score board one a seven-play, 42-yard drive.
  • Elishah Barnewll joined in on the fun rushing for a one-yard touchdown to make the game 62-14.
 
Fourth Quarter
  • The Bobcat defense did not take their foot off the pedal as Jhaqwori Austin intercepted a floating pass from the Knights quarterback and returned it for 25-yards.
  • Elijah Jones fumbled on the Knights' nine-yard line giving them one last possession.
  • St. Andrews took advantage and scored on the last play of the game on a one-yard rush to make the final score 62-20.

St. Thomas will head into their bye week undefeated. The team will return to the action on the road to head into Mid-South Conference play. The Bobcats are set to take on Warner University on October 2, kick-off scheduled for 1 p.m. from Lakeland Christian High School.
