#25 WOMEN'S SOCCER FALL TO THE BUCCANEERS

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (September 22, 2021) – St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team (5-1-1) fell to the Buccaneers of Barry University (Fla.) at the Buccaneer Soccer Field on Wednesday evening, 2-1.

Match Notes:
  • The offensive pressure was present early as the Bobcats attempted five shots in the first 14-minutes.
  • De Don was able to land one of the five in the back of the net to take an early 1-0 lead over the Bucs.
  • The buildup started with the defensive line pushing the ball up the left sideline as Weide played the perfect ball up to the feet of Jullich. Jullich then dribbled through three defenders and put up a shot that was saved by the. keeper. De Don was able to get the rebound off the deflection which led to the lone Bobcat goal.
  • St. Thomas out-shot Barry 9-8 in the first half. The stu defense was instrumental blocking three of the eight.
  • Kayla Jackson came in and had a chance to take a 2-0 lead before the half but the Buccaneer keeper made a big time save on the breakaway tto deny the sophomore.
  • The offensive continued to put in the efforts for the insurance as Medina and Ferradaz had a heavy push in the first two minutes of the second half.
  • Barry tied the match in the 59th-minute with a through-ball that made it past the Bobcat defense.
  • In what was a great back and forth battle, the Bucs took advantage of a hard foul in the box from the Bobcats to score the penalty kick and take a 2 -1 advantage in the 76th-minute.
  • Both teams totaled for 38 shots with 18 on goal and 12 corner kicks.
Up Next:
St. Thomas is set to start conference play against SCAD-Savannah, on Thursday, September 30 on the brand new Bobcat Turf Field, start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
