MANZUR AND FERRADAZ EARLY GOALS LEAD TO UPSET VICTORY OVER RV EAGLES

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. (September 3, 2021) – The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team (3-0-0) defeated the Eagles from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) from Royal Oaks Park on Friday night, 2-0. The game was called in the 83rd minute due to inclement weather. Since the game reached passed the 70th-minute it is considered a complete match.

  • ERAU is receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Lefebvre got the starting nod in the net for the Bobcats for the fourth straight game.
  • Bobcat offense got it started early as Manzur netted her second goal of the season with a chip over the keeper as Deleon set up the play perfectly in the second minute to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Ferradaz kept the offense going with her third goal of the season beating the keeper in a 1v1 and placing it perfectly in the lower right corner in the ninth minute for an insurance goal over the Eagles.
  • Bobcat keeper, Melanie Lefebvre, was put to the test in the first half as the Eagles were trying to capitalize on a breakaway opportunity, but she stepped up to the challenge and won the one-on-one battle for a big time save for STU.
  • Both teams equally put up five shots in the first half in well contested battle.
  • The second half continued with an aggressive offense for both sides as a total of 13-shots were taken and six were on goal.
  • Both teams combined racked up 23-shots and eight-corner kicks for the match.
  • The game was called in the 83rd minute due to the thunderstorms in the area and for the safety of the players and coaches.
 
Up Next
St. Thomas will head to the west coast next weekend to take on the University of Antelope Valley and The Master's University in California on Thursday September 9 and Saturday September 11, respectively.
