(January 1, 2022) – The St. Thomas University Men's Basketball team (5-5, 2-3 SUN) took on the NCAA Division I, Florida International University Panthers in an exhibition on Saturday afternoon from the Ocean Bank Convocation Center to open the new year. The Panthers took the contest 95-72 as the final.

The Bobcats continue to work their way back into rhythm picking up an exhibition against neighbor NCAA Division I foe, Florida International. St. Thomas had an early burst in the first minutes of play taking a 6-3 lead.

D'Andre Johnson helped get the Bobcats back in the game scoring eight-of-ten points on a 10-6 run that brought the game within one with 7:31 remaining in the first half. After trading baskets back-and-forth, Florida International took a seven-point lead into the half at 40-33.

Johnson continued with the hot hand in second half scoring a three-pointer as the opening basket to make it 40-36. Corcoran hit a free-throw that made it a one possession game with 19 minutes to go in the game. The Panthers broke away halfway through the half and took the lead for good to the end.

D'Andre Johnson was the highlight for the Bobcats scoring 19-points off the bench and collecting 10-boards.
Augustus Stone followed suit scoring double-digits in his fifth straight game with 14, leading the starting lineup.
Dwayne Russell led the glass cleaning with 15-rebounds.

The Bobcats outrebounded the Panthers 48-41, dominating the offensive side 19-11.
