MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 22, 2022) – The St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball team (8-7, 5-4 SUN) stays hot winning three of their last four in Sun Conference action. Their latest win comes on the road in the Sun Conference Game of the Week on the road against Florida Memorial University (9-7, 5-4 SUN) 90-73.

The Bobcats break a four-game losing streak against the Lions winning game one of the second round of league action. St. Thomas started off with a convincing win over then tied for second place Lions.

Game Notes
The Bobcat offense had a game, scoring 90-points for the second time this season in conference play. Four of the five Bobcat starters scored in double-digits on the big night.

St. Thomas opened the game on a 9-4 run split with shots from
Chris Whitaker and
Augustus Stone. Stone then got a steal and bucket that forced a Lions timeout as STU led 13-7 with 14:44 left in the first half. The Bobcats maintained a double-digit lead through 11-minutes and took a 13-point lead into halftime.

In the first half STU held FMU shooting 11% from behind the arc going 1-9, while the Bobcats shot 45% from the field and 36% from behind the arc. The glass game was dominated by STU at 22-12. St. Thomas scored 13 second chance points and 13 points off turnovers while dominating the points in the paint at 22-14.

The second half was no disappointment as the Bobcats broke the game wide open going on a 21-7 run over five and half minutes.
D'Andre Johnson led the way as five different Bobcats scored, three slams were added that solidified the statement win and flipped the gym making the Bobcats the favorites.

St. Thomas took the contest by a 17-point victory, splitting the series against the Bobcats.
Augustus Stone added another 20-point performance while
Dwayne Russell added his own 20-point game with 11-rebounds. Russell the reigning Sun Conference player of the week, now collected his eighth straight game with a double-double.

Seven difference Bobcats recorded a steal in the contest to bring the team total to 11. 10 of the 11 Bobcats that played recorded a rebound to bring the team total to 46, eight more than the Lions.
