(RV) Women’s Soccer Forces Draw Against Ave Maria

AVE MARIA, Fla. (October 13, 2022) - St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team (5-4-2, 1-1-1 SUN) forced a draw against the Gyrenes of Ave Maria University (3-3-4, 0-1-1 SUN) on Thursday evening from Gyrene Field.

Game Recap

  • Isabella Penaranda got the starting nod in the net as the freshmen has been the steady keeper for the Bobcats.
  • The first fifteen minutes had the pressure coming from Ave Maria as the Gyrenes were a bit to eager getting two offsides calls but finally got a shot attempt off of a corner kick.
  • St. Thomas quickly countered as Karina Medina flipped the pressure and got a shot off a minute and half later.
  • Ave Maria followed through on the attack and took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.
  • Offense was pretty even with STU taking seven shots and AMU six. Four on target for the Bobcats to three of the Gyrenes.
  • The second half was all Bobcats as the defense settled in and allowed only two shots.
  • Claudia Rodriguez was able to get the equalizer in the 75th minute. 
  • After a cross attempt had gone astray, Natalie Haldeman was able to keep the pressure in the box getting a through ball to find the perfect left foot of Rodriguez who had a one touch low shot to the bottom left post of the goal.
  • Medina and Leslie Deleon would try to push for a game winner by putting two shots on frame, but both would be saved by the Gyrenes' keeper.

  • St. Thomas had 19 shots to the Gyrenes eight.
  • After giving up six shots in the first half only two were allowed in the second.
  • The Bobcats had four corner kick opportunities, three more than Ave Maria.
