Volleyball Sweeps Their Way Through A Two-Match Weekend to Continue an 11 Match Win Streak

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 23, 2022) - The streak continues for St. Thomas University Volleyball (15-4, 10-1 SUN) who took down a pair of Sun Conference opponents through the weekend to extend to 11 straight wins. On Saturday the Bobcats took down College of Coastal Georgia in three sets. The team then traveled to Central Florida to take on Webber International University in a makeup game due to Hurricane Ian that also resulted in a three set sweep.

St. Thomas has back-to-back weeks with three matches. This week was a statement week with three straight sweeps not dropping a single set. In addition to the 11 match with streak, the Bobcats have won 11 straight sets and have a 33-7 set record through the streak.

Against Coastal Georgia, the first set was mainly consumed of Mariner service and set errors that gave STU the advantage. Second set had both teams trading points and a boost in the Bobcat offense. The defense also stepped up and forced a negative hit percentage for Coastal Georgia. Set three was all STU hitting .316 and a match high 17 kills.

Alexandra MacAskill and Amanda Allende led the way with nine kills each, Kendall Brock also added back into the rotation had five kills. Bianca Grassi held down the back row with 15 digs to maintain her five per set average. Isadora Tavares and Mia Thomas continue to roll in the 6-2 offense and 34 assists combined.

The second match on Sunday against Webber International was another clean game offensively for the Bobcats hitting .319 in the match and accumulating just 11 attack errors. Webber hit .162 as a team and had 17 errors. The Warriors did lead defensively with seven blocks to the Bobcats three.

Allende and MacAskill yet again led the way on the offense for 11 and eight kills, respectively. The setters combined for 35 assists with Tavares leading with 19 and Thomas with 16. Allende was a dig shy from a double-double.

St. Thomas prepares for a slow one match week welcoming the Warriors for Senior Day and Homecoming weekend on Saturday, October 29 at 2 p.m. from the Fernandez Family Center.
