MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 29, 2022) – No. 7 St. Thomas University Men's Soccer team (9-0-3, 6-0-2
) get a big win upsetting No. 4 Keiser University (10-1-2, 7-1-0) for the second straight season. The Bobcats took down the Seahawks 2-0 from AutoNation Field on senior day on Saturday afternoon.
St. Thomas blanked Keiser the third straight meeting and to move to a four-game win streak among the two. This was the first lost for the defending national champion Seahawks on the season and in Sun Conference play.
Guido Cacciabue opened the scoring with a goal in the 23
rd minute with a beautiful bicycle kick finish after a back foot flick from
Fernando Arzeno into the box that was unstoppable.
Both teams had a very aggressive first half getting a total of 15 shots off. Each keeper picked up four first half saves as well.
The second half was a little less aggressive but still had nine shots among both teams. St. Thomas was able to secure the win with a goal in the 86
th minute from
Soeren Zeidler. After. The ball kept being passed around in the air, it was finally brought down by
Facundo Cisterna who gained control and powered through a counter for the Bobcats from the Keiser half. Working a two-on-two Cisterna dished the ball out to Zeidler who then struck a shot from the right side straight into. The top of the goal as the Seahawks came early out to deny the attack.
St. Thomas has secured second place and will be the Sun Conference Regular Season runner-up. STU looks ahead to another big match against Florida National on November 1 on the road at 11 a.m.
