Â
Isadora Tavares held a seven-point serve to start out the match on a 7-1 run. Florida Memorial would take a timeout and quickly regroup to keep the set at bay. Through the set the defense started to make the impact as
Alexandra MacAskill denied the Lions' offense to go on any possible run. Set one found itself tied at 21 all until the Bobcats scored four straight points to close it out. Tavares held another length service as
Amanda Allende provided the offense to take the set one advantage.
Â
The St. Thomas defense would just get better through the sets forcing the Florida Memorial offense hitting percentage to drop throughout the match. Set two had another dominant start as STU pumped out an 8-0 lead.
Bianca Grassi was able to hold serve on this one while picking up a service ace. FMU was able to work their way back and tie it up at 17 all as the teams traded points until 23.
Tayla Barnes and MacAskill were able to help secure the second set on the offense side with the final two kills.
Â
MacAskill set the tone for the third set recording kills for three of the first five Bobcat points. FMU was only able to score six kills as the defense picked up another four-block set. Allende had the put away kill that led to the sweep of the Lions.
Â
Allende led all scoring with 15-points on 13 kills, a service ace, and a block solo. The senior now has three straight matches with double-digit kills. Tavares led the setters with 21 assists.
Â
St. Thomas will host Southeastern University to continue conference action on Saturday, October 8 from the Fernandez Family Center Gym.
