(RV) Women’s Soccer Punches Ticket to the Dance with Road Win Over Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. (November 1, 2022) - Playoff bound is the St. Thomas University Women's Soccer team with a big win over Warner University 4-1 on the road Tuesday evening.

Three second half goals would be the difference maker in keeping the season alive for STU. Another pressure filled offensive outing led the the finding of four goals on the night. St. Thomas had 31 shot attempts compared to Warner's eight, 18 of the 31 were on frame.

Warner jumped on the board first with a goal in the eighth minute to take a 1-0 lead. Megan Velazquez then evened the score in the 18th minute to send the game tied into halftime.

The second half was all STU as Miranda Ferradaz got the scoring done early. Just three minutes into the half, Ferradaz scored his sixth goal of the season. The defense locked down as well just allowing one shot in the second 45-minutes.

After applying pressure non-stop, the Bobcats were able to breakthrough and get a goal from Annika Geistert to make it 3-1 and add some cushion to the lead. Geistert scored off her own free kick from the far left side.

Velazquez had the final dagger with her second goal of the game in the final seconds of the contest. Geistert once again placed a beautiful free kick into the box from about 40 yards out to give Velazquez the perfect opportunity for the header to finish the game.

St. Thomas will be the fifth seed in the Sun Conference Tournament and will travel to play Thomas on Saturday, November 5 at 11am in Thomasville, Ga. for the Sun Conference quarterfinals.
