Late Push Not Enough As Bobcats Drop First Game of the Season to Keiser

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 17, 2022)- The St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball team dropped a close game to Sun Conference opponent Keiser. Despite the late push, it was not enough and the Bobcats lose their first game of the season.

The Bobcats started the game off fast, with D'andre Johnson and Milton Matthews hitting back to back threes. The Seahawks answered with a three of their own, followed by a free throw and lay in to tie the game. After another Keiser three, Jordan Hernandez responded with a shot made behind the arch to tie it back up.

D'andre Johnson had a good game, making back to back baskets to make it a three-point game early. The Seahawks couldn't seem to miss and went on a run to extend their lead by seven. Dalon Dean made brought STU into reach with a three, and Joshua Thrower made it a one-point game with a tough lay up in the paint and a free throw a little time later.

After three threes in a row, Keiser had a ten-point lead with six minutes to go in the first half. STU made a push nearing the end of the first half with Fred Mulbah getting it started. A D'andre Johnson three made it a five-point game. After some free throws, the Bobcats were down seven heading into the break.

To start the second half, STU came out with some spark the same way they started the game. D'andre Johnson started the second half off with a lay-up, and a little later hitting another one from behind the arch. Justyn Rogers checked in and immediately made an impact. Rogers drove to the basket, got fouled, and made both at the line.

D'andre Johnson brought the energy back to the arena with a dunk that got the crowd back into it. Going down by thirteen, a James Harris III and two Dalon Dean threes brought the Bobcats to within four, with eight minutes to play. After looking like STU would tie the game, Keiser went on to get an eleven-point lead with four and a half minutes to play.

The Bobcats would just not go away, and James Harris III hit another three to try and kickstart the comeback. Milton Matthews hit another from behind the arch and it was a three-point game with two minutes left. The Seahawks went on to hit a couple of shots and would ultimately win the game 88-81.
