(RV) Volleyball Falls to Golden Eagles in NAIA Opening Round

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (November 19, 2022) - A historic run comes to an end on the road as St. Thomas Volleyball (19-6) falls to Cornerstone University (33-3) in the Opening Round of the NAIA National Tournament on Saturday afternoon. 

St. Thomas off to a hot start taking set one from the Golden Eagles 25-22. Amanda Allende had four kills too spark the offense while Loreto Nunez Casal had two kills and two blocks to bring some life off the bench.

The Bobcats would continue to battle it out for the next three sets but errors would prove costly and the difference maker. STU had 39 errors while CU had 19. St. Thomas had more points, kills, assists and digs in the game. Cornerstone led in blocks (12-7) and service aces (7-5).

Allende finished with 18 kills and six digs. Bianca Grassi continued to show her best skills with 27 digs and a service ace. Mariana Cova was the other Bobcat in double digits for kills with 10. The middle duo of Sana Dennis and Tayla Barnes has seven blocks total with Dennis leading with four. Isadora Tavares led the setters with 23 assists.

This concludes the season for the Bobcats as they close the chapter to a great 2022 season.
