MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 23, 2022) - St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball (7-0, 3-0 SUN) continues their hot start winning their seventh game of the season. The Bobcats have yet to drop a contest all season. St. Thomas rolled passed Kansas Christian College 102-41 from the Fernandez Family Center Gym on Friday afternoon.
St. Thomas came out the gate on fire scoring 35 in the first quarter. Kasey Gagan came out and hit the first three pointer of the contest. Head Coach, Candace Walker, went to the bench for a fresh look replacing all five starters and had no drop off. Mya Victor came out and score the first three buckets attempted for a quick nine points. STU had the defensive pressure as well forcing 12 turnovers and allowing just six points, the fewest this season in a quarter. Jayde Johnson also came out and added eight points with two three-pointers.
The second quarter was no different with another 30-point performance by the Bobcat offense. The St. Thomas bench was responsible for 38 of the 65 first half points. After 20 minutes of play, STU defense has held the Flacons to just 17 points. Madison Sjogreen had the hot hand in the second quarter knocking down three of four from behind the arc. Sjogreen, Johnson, and Victor finished as the leading scorers of the half all tied up with 11 points.
The third quarter started off a little slow but picked up once again on the full bench swap. The bench was responsible for 15 of the 21 points. Kansas Christian shot their best 33.3% from the field in the third quarter. The paint presence switched up in the third with 11-points from inside. The fourth quarter saw the defense continue the pressure finishing with 33 turnovers. The defense finished with a season best seven blocks, 47 rebounds, and 20 steals.
This marks the second time this season that the Bobcats score in triple digits. The bench led the way with 69 points as four scored in double-digits. Every Bobcat that entered the court recorded a point in this game. Three players had career-highs with Sjogreen leading the way with 18-points. Paige McDonald was right behind with her first career double-double scoring 17 points and collecting 12 rebounds, both career highs. Johnson was right behind with 13 points in 14 minutes played.
St. Thomas will continue their non-conference schedule with on Sunday, November 27, against Florida National from the Fernandez Family Center Gym with tip-off schedule at 12 p.m.
