Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 10, 2022) – The St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball team upsets #19 Southeastern University 83-72 from the Fernandez Family Center on Thursday evening. The Bobcats have now put themselves in contention of being a top seed in the Sun Conference and set themselves up for a good chance at hosting a playoff game.

Game Notes
  • St. Thomas scored the first bucket of the game as Jonas Parker got the offensive board and the bucket.
  • Southeastern quickly got in rhythm and brought the game even at 10 all five minutes through the first half.
  • The Fire looked to spread the game open early taking a 19-12 lead before St. Thomas had a run of their own.
  • A 17-2 run completely tilted the board in favor of the Bobcats with eight minutes to go before halftime taking a 29-21 lead.
  • Southeastern slowly started chipping away and found their way back to a tied ball game at 31 all before Justyn Rogers knocked down a big time three-pointer.
  • Jonas Parker hit a pair of free throws to close out the half and give STU a two-point advantage.
  • St. Thomas is known to be a second half team and they continued the trend as Will Brown III came out firing three-point daggers.
  • The Fire flipped the scoreboard five minutes in to make it 52-50 on a Riley Minix jumper.
  • Chris Whitaker then turned it around and made six straight points for STU to regain the lead and make it 58-53 with 12:14 on the clock.
  •  Both teams traded off baskets to keep it the lead steady on the side of STU.
  • Dwayne Russell exploded on a run of his own going to work in the paint scoring 11 straight points that had the Fernandez Center up on their feet.
  • This run gave the Bobcats a 78-72 lead with just under a minute of half left to go.
  • The Russell dunk and Jahsim Floyd block at the one-minute mark solidified the win for the Bobcats as it deflated the Fire spirits and bench energy.
  • The Bobcat defense shutdown SEU for the final two minutes of the contest.
