#17 BOBCATS FIGHT TO THE FINISH BUT ULTIMATELY FALL TO LYNN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 15, 2022) – The 17th ranked St. Thomas University Baseball team (7-1) took on NCAA DII opponent Lynn University (7-1) on Tuesday evening from Paul Demie Mainieri Field. The Bobcats were unable to come overcome a nine-run seventh inning ultimately taking the first lost of the season.

  • Jorge Arias got his first career start on the bump for the Bobcats.
  • Arias recorded a strikeout in his first batter faced.
  • The Bobcats jumped on the board first as Ezequiel Valdez started off the game with a leadoff walk.
  • Jack Khawly scored Valdez on a double up the middle.
  • Lynn scored two to take the lead in the top of the third.
  • The Fighting Knights tacked on two more in the top of the sixth to take a 4-1 lead.
  • St. Thomas scratched those two runs in the bottom half scoring on a sacrifice fly from Andrew Fernandez and a wild pitch scored Brian Garcia.
  • Lynn then broke the game open on a nine-run top of the seventh.
  • STU did not stop fighting scoring five in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Angelo Piloto came in to pinch hit and successfully did his job with the bases loaded getting a double down the right field line.
  • Ezequiel Valdez continued to add fuel to the fire hitting a three-run shot to left center to bring the game to 13-8.
  • The top of the ninth added two more runs for Lynn.
