#11 STU TAKES MIDWEEK OVER FMU

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 22, 2022) – The 11th ranked St. Thomas University Baseball (25-5, 5-1 SUN) team took on crossroad rival Florida Memorial University (11-13) in midweek non-conference action on Tuesday night from Paul Demie Mainieri Field. The Bobcats took the game 11-6 over the Lions to improve their win streak to 12 straight.

Game Notes
  • Luis Gonzalez got his first start of the season and did not disappoint going five innings and striking out six for a career high.
  • Florida Memorial got the scoring starting in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead.
  • Ezequiel Valdez did not let the lead stand very long hitting a two-run shot in the bottom half.
  • St. Thomas then went on to put up a crooked number in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to slowly extend their lead.
  • Alan Caretta blasted a two-run shot of his own to right center to make it 8-2 in the bottom of the fifth.
  • The Bobcats scored their final three runs in the bottom of the seventh using fundamental baseball of sac flies and simple base hits.
  • Florida Memorial started a rally in the bottom half of the ninth that started to chip away to their deficit scoring six runs off Bobcat errors and miscues along with walks and hit by pitches.
  • Gonzalez picked up his first win of the season while Joel Rivero picks up his first save.

The Bobcats will get back into Sun Conference action hosting University of South Carolina Beaufort in a three-game series at Paul Demie Mainieri Field starting with a double header on Friday scheduled for 3/6 p.m. and the series finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
