MIRAMAR, Fla. (April 24, 2022) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Track and Field team placed third at the Sun Conference Championship Meet. The two-day meet took place at the Ansin Sports Complex with track preliminaries on Saturday and finals on Sunday.

Marvin Williams and Isaac Joseph were the stars of the show breaking two Sun Conference records each. Joseph hit personal bests in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash to hit an 'A' standard qualification and record the no. 2 time in the country for both events. Joseph had the number one time in the preliminaries as well shaving off .34 of a second to set a new record in the 100-meter dash. In the 200-meter dash, Joseph was sixth in the preliminaries with a time of 21.73. The seniors ran a full second faster (20.75) in the final to come home with the gold medal. This is the second time that Joseph has won the two races for the Conference title in his career doing so in 2019 as a freshmen.

Graduate student, Marvin Williams, secured his second straight conference gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles running the third best time in the country. In the 110-meter hurdles, Williams hit the no.1 time in the country with a time of 13.81. Both times posted as personal best as well. Williams also helped the team in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, hitting the 'A' standard in the 4x100 and coming in second.

The 4x800 relay team finished first as the group of Adam Kamel, Jonathan Memnon, Stephen Ward, and Michael Smikle led the way with a time of 8:10.18 to score 10-points. Adam Kamel shared a special moment on Friday evening as he was sworn in to the Marine Corps at the Ansin Sports Complex. Kamel will start Marine boot camp post graduation.

Michael Smikle collected his first gold medal as a freshmen in the 800-meter race. After finishing fourth in the prelims, Smikle came back and shaved off six seconds to take first with a time of 1:56.07. Smikel qualified for nationals earlier on the year at the Hurricane Invitational.

St. Thomas will have a few more meets to try and qualify more individuals for Nationals in Gulf Shores, Ala. from May 25-27.
