BRUNSWICK, Ga. (April 28, 2022) – The 19
th ranked St. Thomas University Women's Tennis team competed in the Sun Conference Championship Tournament on Thursday morning. The semifinal final round featured the rematch against SCAD-Savannah who is ranked 6
th nationally and the two-seed in the tournament. This is the second straight year that STU has clinched a spot in the Sun Conference Tournament.
- Singles play made things interesting as STU would take a couple courts to keep their hopes alive.
- SCAD took court one in straight sets to make it a 2-0 match.
- Carme Ibañez had a big win on court five to make it a 2-1 match. Ibañez fell in the first game and then went on to win 6-1, 6-0.
- Annie Carrera avenged her fall in doubles in singles play defeating #26 ITA ranked Alessia Piccoliori 6-3, 7-5 to tie the match up at two all.
- SCAD would then take the lead winning court two in tie breaker fashion and then clinched match point on court six.
- Puente had an unfinished match on court four which was in the third set.

Although St. Thomas fell in the tournament, their playoff run still has a chance to stay alive as they are ranked 19
th in the nation and will look for an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history. Nationals would start May 17 in Mobile, Ga.
