KHAWLY LEADS WALK-OFF VICTORY FOR BOBCATS OVER WARRIORS IN DAY ON OF THE SUN TOURNAMENT

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (May 5, 2022) – The second seeded St. Thomas University (STU) Baseball team (36-15, 14-10 SUN) took on the fifth seeded Webber International University Warriors (37-18, 12-12 SUN) in the opening round of the Sun Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The top-25 matchup saw its fourth contest between the two in a 14-day span. The Bobcats walked it off in the 11th inning to secure a spot in the night cap on Friday evening.

Game_Highlights
  • Chase Costello made his playoff debut with the Bobcats taking the bump and going seven innings.
  • The Warriors had a hectic first inning, but Costello stranded the bases loaded with a big strikeout.
  • Josue Rangel cracked the scoreboard first with a solo shot to left field on a 2-2 count.
  • St. Thomas stranded two runners in scoring position to close out the first.
  • Andrew Fernandez continues to lead the Bobcat offense getting a two-run shot to left center to make it a 3-0 ball game in the bottom of the second.
  • Webber rallied to take the lead in the top of the third scoring four runs to make it 4-3.
  • The lead was erased in the bottom of the fourth as a costly throwing error from the Warriors third baseman would tie the game up at four all.
  • Joel Rivero came into relief in the eighth and would once again have to go an extra distance for the second outing in a row.
  • Rivero threw four innings to pick up the win while striking out four, only allowing two hits and no runs scored.
  • Momentum started to flow into the STU dugout as Andrew Fernandez drew a leadoff walk to start the bottom of the 11th.
  • Rangel followed the next at-bat getting hit by a pitch to put the first two runners aboard with no outs.
  • Jack Khawly came up big taking a 2-1 pitch and driving it to left center for his third hit of the game and giving the Bobcats a walk-off victory over the Warriors.

 Coming_Up
St. Thomas will now move ahead and play Keiser who won their first game of the day upsetting Warner on day one. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. from the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.
