WALESKA, Ga. (January 21, 2023)- The St. Thomas University (STU) Wrestling team traveled to Reinhardt University to compete in the Eagle Duals. The Bobcats picked up a win defeating Truett-McConnell University, and dropping a match to the hosts #15 Reinhardt.
 
Starting off with the first dual of the day against the Eagles from Reinhardt University. Stephen Moreno in the 125lb class was defeated by Angel Banda by decision 8-1. In the 133lb class, Jerry Molina was defeated by tech fall (5:58) by Jackson Bond.
 
Moving on to the 141lb match, Thomas Williams was defeated by the #15 ranked Dawson Bates by major decision 9-0. David Pierson picked up the first win for the Bobcats in the 149lb class, defeating Cole Luallen by sudden victory 6-4. With this win, David Pierson moves to 8-1 in dual matches on the season. 
 
JJ Contreras was defeated by fall by 4^thranked Trevor Burdick in the 157lb class. In the 165lb class, Daniel Garlin was defeated by 8^thranked Matt Jenkins by fall. Christian Cobo lost in the 174lb class to the 4^thranked Cole Tenety by decision 10-4. 
 
In the 184lb class, Shemar Barthelus was defeated by the 23^rdranked Sam Irwin by fall. Jessiah Garcia-Contreras picked up a win over Ruston Robinson by disqualification. And finally, Jairo Caceres was defeated in the 285lb class by the 17^thranked Nicholas Jarvis by fall. The final score Reinhardt 38, St. Thomas 9.
 
Getting into the next dual, the Bobcats dominated Truett-McConnell. In the 125lb class, Stephen Moreno picked up a victory over Brandon Navixay by sudden victory 7-5. In the 133lb class, Jerry Molina got the victory over Frankie Salcedo by decision 6-4. 
 
David Pierson earned his second victory of the day in the 141lb class, defeating Matthew Johnson by fall. Thomas Williams was defeated in the 149lb class by Lionel Silvestre by decision 8-5. JJ Contreras got his first win of the day, defeating Anothony Greear by fall in the 157lb class. 
 
Daniel Garlin kept the momentum going, defeating Spencer Fields by major decision 17-4. Christian Cobo earned a win by Elijah Hester getting disqualified in the 174lb class. Shemar Barthelus was defeated in a close one in the 184lb class by Hans Evatt by decision 5-4.
 
In the heavier divisions, Jessiah Garcia-Contreras earned a victory over Nolan Cook by decision 4-2, for his second win of the day. And finally, Jairo picked up a forfeit victory in the 285lb class. Final score, Bobcats 37 and Bears 6.
